Let Sleeping Cats Lie

Let sleeping cats lie. The cliche is about dogs - let sleeping dogs lie. Don't mess with something that is harmless at the moment but could bite you if you mess with it. But in many ways it is even more applicable to cats. Cats sleep when and where they want, and it is one of the things that makes them so endearing to us. Here is a collection of interesting sleeping cat pictures for your enjoyment. Cats sleep in the daytime and at night (less so). And it looks like they can sleep on just about any surface, anywhere.

Cats sleep 16-18 hours a day. They are often still alert, and can wake very easily and quickly. Sleeping so much is a evolved trait shared by many predators. When you are not hunting, it is best to save energy - and the best way to do that is to sleep a lot.  Since cats can wake very quickly they can still watch out for any prey that happens to come by and also watch out for bigger predators.  In the mean time, they are saving up and storing energy for when it is fight or flight (or hunt) time.

Cats get their beauty sleep constantly, maybe that is why they are so cute?

Open draw, empty shoe, anybody's lap will do.

Overlord Cat is constantly vigilant, protecting sleeping cats everywhere. This is yet another reason you should let sleeping cats lie. Overlord kitty as laser beam eyes, and if you disturb a sleeping cat, Overlord Cat will zap you into a trillion smithereens. Or perhaps he will take over your soul, or banish you to Siberia for the rest of your life. Sleeping cats like to be sleeping, that is why they are sleeping, and being cats, they feel they can sleep anywhere they darn well please. Cat sleeping in your car and you need to drive to work? Tough luck, let cat sleep. Walk to work, you need the exercise. Tempted to wake cat up and boot him or her out of your car? Don't dare! Overlord Cat is watching!
